Gale's CyberHound, launched free for three months on 30th April, indexes 10,000 sites chosen for "coolness, content, design entertainment value".
Simple searching allows choice amongst Resource Categories ("Companies", "Discussion Groups" etc), 29 virtual library-type Broad Categories, and IP categories, including FTP. Comprehensive expert searching includes "name" and "site organizers" delimiters for part-addresses. Some operators seem odd (hyphens, not quotes), and some features refreshing ("Pop Culture").

The pleasing, sensible interface annoyingly forces you to scroll for the "Search now" button - hitting return doesn't work. Refining searches is easy, but the impressive abstract before going to the URL could be frustrating. Three non-relevant "elib" hits.
