This site provides access to a vast number of resources on all aspects of ethics. Its two main sections are on Ethical Theory ("academic" philosophy and related material) and on Applied Ethics (moral issues such as Sexual orientation and Environmental ethics). There is also a section entitled Additional Resources, providing connections to, for example, draft papers and material on using the Web for teaching, and a discussion forum.

What impresses me is the comprehensive and substantial nature of many of these resources. Ethics Updates generally avoids the trap of providing lists of links to to other lists of links, and gives direct access to a fair amount of solid textual information. For example, many pages include bibliographies (from Hinman's book Ethics: A Pluralistic Approach to Moral Theory), and discussion questions for student use. On many pages, links are included classic texts and to articles available on the net.

The subject matter embraces a wide range. As well as many links to philosophical resources, strictly interpreted, there are links to, for example, Supreme Court decisions and other legal documents (on the Rights Theory and other pages), and to a whole range of material, both academic and "popular", on issues such as abortion and the environment. Search boxes for search engines such as Savvysearch and Findlaw are incorporated into some pages. The site is updated regularly.

I do not need to add the usual rider about "should be looked at by anyone interested in using the Internet for serious philosophy teaching", because I know that it is. A colleague of mine who teaches philosophy at Sussex has used it and recommended it to students for the past couple of years.
