One of my favourite web sites is the Greek Mythology site run by John Hunt. It is, like so many other sites, under development. But under like the plethora of personal interest sites, this one is still being added to and updated regularly. The site aims to be a comprehensive guide to Greek Mythology, although it readily admits that it is no where near it yet (shame to say, it does not yet havea separate entry for Ariadne, but she does appear under Theseus's).

The site is, at present, divided into 8 sections, for example Greek vs. Roman Mythology, The Gods, Heroes, Creatures, Stories and Family Trees. The tone of the information ranges from the friendly, assessable scholarly (mainly for description of characters etc. in the myths) to the downright enthusiastic, perhaps too enthusiastic for some, and vivid prose used for the retelling of the myths.

The site's most impressive feature, however, is its design. The layout is clean and simple, and few graphics are used bar the home page button (a rather jolly hand drawn Corinthian column on a red background), and a scroll design horizontal bar and I sincerely hope this remains the case as it vastly reduces the download time of a page. The design and lack of Netscape add-on's to the source HTMLmean that this resource looks good through any browser. The actual use made of hypertext is excellent - links are exploited to allow the user multiple access points to a story or piece of information, while the strong clear layout orients the user at all times. Put quite simply I like visiting this site from time to time to see what has been added, to read and browse around a bit, and most of all feel comfortable at a site with a strong, clean and appropriate design.
