This is a useful one-stop compilation of key points from the help pages of nine search engines. What makes it bearable is the page's introductory sections: upfront and largely justifiable overvies of introductory topics including search syntax.

Infobasic Website
While it is good, it is beaten to the post by Berkeley's awesome tutorial at http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Findinfo.html. There are no obvious misspellings except for the names of the search engines themselves, and this is generally a reasonable site for inclusion in an introduction to using the web for research. It is honest and farily well maintained, and is not bad for what it purports to do. It might be worth six out of ten.
Recent discussion lists on web searching which might be useful are NETTRAIN@LISTSERV.ACSU.BUFFALO.EDU and web-support@mail.base.ac.uk
