Mark
Brownlow describes science komm as a links directory
supporting research communication in the life sciences and medicine. It
provides links to journals in 75 subject areas, scientific publishers,
medical and life science directories, advice on writing and resources,
dictionaries, glossaries, newsgroups, discussion lists and news sites. The
aim behind science.komm is to provide a specialist directory which will
help in the dissemination of scientific information. Although targeted at
scientists, librarians have also shown a lot of interest. There are three
key resources: around 3000 links to scientific journals, split into 25
life science and over 50 medical subject areas.
The visitor can browse each category or use a search
facility; links to scientific publishers, also categorised into subject
areas; a "resource pool" pointing to a range of sites offering
some kind of communication resource, including dictionaries and
glossaries, writing resources, how to keepup-to-date (news sites, Medline,
journal monitors) and where to find information on the net (medical and
life science links directories, also divided into subject areas). All
sites are checked for relevance and links are checked every two to three
weeks to make sure they're working.
