This is the picture of Dennis Nicholson (CAIRNS) we published in the last issue. Captions for this picture appear below. Again, a tough call to pick the winner:

Here is the selection of the best entries:
"Peter had spent such a long time in Mexico that he could swat the cockroaches without looking." Ross Tyner, Okanagan University College Library, Vernon, B.C., Canada.
George Geddes, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow: "You may not believe it, but there is a fully functional ThinkPad under this hat..."
"Stop! If my wife sees this, she'll go ballistic..." John Kirriemuir [CDLR, Glasgow].
"What is the Spanish for clump?..... The Casa Cairns was a popular haunt for those late afternoon Tequila sessions. The ritual induction to the Society of Clumping Librarians was about to begin....." Ian Manson, Geac Library Division, Bristol.
Gav Brown, [via appleonline.net] " I'm sorry I thought this was the queue for the gents, have you seen my guide dog?"
"Arm wrestling's much easier when you don't have an opponent" Henry Girling, The British Library 96 Euston Road London.
Two winners again this issue, chosen by unanimous vote in the Ariadne Office: Ross Tyner from Canada and George Geddes from Glasgow. Congratulations. Book tokens will be on their way to you shortly. Commiserations to the other entrants.
Here is the caption competition for issue 26.Captions please by the 15th of March to ariadne@ukoln.ac.uk. Please put 'caption competition 26' in the subject line. Best of luck.

Ariadne continues (surprisingly) to receive entries for earlier caption competitions (those in issues 7 and 8 being particular favourites). We are grateful for these (extremely late) entries, which are often very good, and continue to make us laugh. But unfortunately there are no prizes available for entries to these earlier competitions.
