Coming in Issue Four...
Here we give a brief introduction to a few of the items that will appear in Issue 4 of Ariadne on the Web (due out mid-July 1996)
- Hazel Gott gives us the lowdown on the Follett Lecture Series. This series of lectures developed from an idea put forward by members of JISC's Follett Implementation Group on Information Technology, with the aim of raising
awareness of international developments and issues relating to the electronic library, and stimulating further discussion; past speakers include Clifford Lynch, Bill Arms, and Paul Evan Peters.
- "Duplication is not a dirty word" - we take a look at mirroring resources on the Net as an aid to easing the network traffic bottleneck between the UK and overseas.
- Powerhouses of the Digital Library revolution - we take a closer look at a few of the UKs networked information research and service centres:
- AHDS - Daniel Greenstein describes the Arts and Humanities Data Service, which is empowered to co-ordinate access to and facilitate the creation and use of electronic resources in the arts and humanities.
- CEDAR: Centre for Database Access Research - Martin Smith describes current and previous projects from this Huddersfield-based centre of document and data retrieval research.
- The International Institute of Electronic Library Research - Mel Collier describes the projects and programmes being undertaken at the De Montfort University based centre.
- Dinty Moore, author of "The Emperor's Virtual Clothes", writes for Ariadne.
