The best entries from the caption competition from the last issue, plus a picture with a metadata theme for you to put a caption to for this issue. The caption competition is present in only the Web version of Ariadne.
The winning entry was:
NEWSFLASH! IT'S OFFICIAL! READING ARIADNE DOES PROTECT
YOU FROM ATTACK BY MUTANT SCORPIONS!
by henry.girling@bl.uk, who wins a mystery prize.
Runners up were:
"Oh no - its the Director, and he has spotted me not working - quick, must read
Ariadne, that counts as library-related work"
by anonymous of nhm.ac.uk, and
"I hope the folks in research aren't too upset about
the changes I made to their article."
by ldjaffe@cats.ucsc.edu

Two rather good entries in even before the competition officially opened were:
...see if you can do better...
The usual rules apply; entries are required by May 6th 1997 - obscene entries are rejected, and anonymity is provided on request.
The prize for the best entry (as well as having your email address put into Ariadne!) is a set of the back issues of Ariadne, autographed by Chris Rusbridge (head of the eLib programme) and the Ariadne team - collectors items in a few years!
