Caption Competition
We present the results of the competition from the last issue.
Here is the picture we asked you to provide a caption for; it was taken at the Australian metadata
conference in March, 1997:
The winning entry, from Jack Gilding, j.gilding@c031.aone.net.au is:
"Would you buy an Internet standard from these people?"
Other notable entries were:
- Another endearing feature of the Meta people of the Dublin Core
(according to the anthropologist Malinowski) is the ritual humiliation of their
leaders. This (as our photograph shows) consists of their being
forced to wear children's short trousers while standing over the
village drainage system ... - by Sam Saunders,
J.P.Saunders@leeds.ac.uk
- The two guys in the middle are talking to each other. I think one
should be saying "Wot, no babes? I thought this was all about met
her, date her?" - by Walter Scales, walter.scales@newcastle.ac.uk
- Where is Wally? - by Andrea Garelli, andreag@ipruniv.cce.unipr.it
- "Guitarist from ZZ Top sneaks into back of Metadata conference unnoticed" - by Jon Knight,
jon@net.lut.ac.uk
- Confused man (center right) enters crowd of happy party-goers - by Alice Klumper,
aklumper@mbnet.mb.ca
- Newsflash: Winners of All-Australia Crinkly Shorts Contest mobbed by fans! - by an anonymous
entrant
- "OK, OK, nice try everyone, but this time only two of you got it right. Yes, in
the front row ... third from the left .. and ... yes, you, third from the
right. This is the PROPER way to apply pressure to the right forearm to prevent
bleeding. Now ... the rest of you ... come on people. Let's try to pay better
attention next time." - by Neal Evenhuis,
neale@bishop.bishop.hawaii.org
Notice: Wednesday 25th June 1997
