Forthcoming article: Enhancing Collaboration and Interaction in a Post-graduate Research Programme

An article is in preparation which picks up the story in Issue 66 in which Tertia Coetsee describes a community of practice for postgraduate students in Phytomedicine where RefShare manages the digital storage and retrieval of the information sources, and Blackboard was added to enhance communication and interaction.

Tertia's article describes the approach to incorporating the educational software, Blackboard in the existing community of practice between staff and postgraduate students of the Phytomedicine Programme at the University of Pretoria, which has been developed since 2009. The original research platform was developed on RefShare (RefWorks). Tertia illustrates the importance of collaboration between the information specialist, the department and researchers as well as examining the important role of the information specialist in applying new developments and tools for education innovation and research excellence in order to promote and support research in the dynamic field of Phytomedicine.

Tertia Coetsee is a qualified librarian/ information specialist at the  Jotello F. Soga Library, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria. She holds a B.Bibl Degree (University of the North West) with 25 years of experience in academic libraries. At the University of Pretoria Tertia is Information Specialist for Veterinary Tropical Diseases, Paraclinical Studies: Pharmacology & Toxicology, Pharmacovigilance Lab, Phytomedicine Programme, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Public Health, Biomedical Research Centre.
