Resources of use to UK Library/Information Science people.

In this 'Resources' section, Ariadne staff explain where to find further information of interest to readers.

Our Funders...

The Electronic Libraries Programme
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/services/elib/
The Electronic Libraries Programme (eLib). Funded by the HEFCE, and managed by JISC, this is a programme of some sixty-odd projects, spread over several years from mid-1995. The programme aims to build practical deliverables of services and resources that will effect a Cultural Change with the UK Higher Education field.

Listings of forthcoming conferences, workshops or other events

BUBL Events Listing
http://www.bubl.ac.uk/news/events/
A good and quick-to-use index of events occuring over the next few months. The list is split into separate sections for the UK, Europe, US and the rest of the World.
Electronic Calendar
http://www.aber.ac.uk/~tplwww/eleccal/
Claims to be "a comprehensive indexed listing of training events, courses, conferences and other meetings in librarianship and information work, publishing and the book trade, and museum work" and does indeed contain a very large amount of LIS-related UK events. Can be searched via subject or date.
The SEDA (Staff and Educational Development Association) events diary
http://www.lgu.ac.uk/iem/events.cgi
A list of some academically related events that are happening over the next four months or so.
Internet Conference Calendar
http://conferences.calendar.com/
A database of conferences from around the world; appears to be updated spasmodically. At any one time, does seem to contain the details of a large number of academic-relevant events.

Job Listings for Librarians and Information Scientists

NISS noticeboard of Computing and Information Science vacancies
http://www.niss.ac.uk/noticeboard/jobs/compvac.html
Vacancies from a variety of sources; most posts advertised are in academia.
BUBL Library and Information Science Jobs Noticeboard
http://www.bubl.ac.uk/news/jobs/
LIS Jobs, usefully sorted according to the closing date (all jobs lists should be done this way). The list is split into separate categories for the UK, Europe, US and the rest of the World.
NISS noticeboard of Library and Librarianship vacancies
http://www.niss.ac.uk/noticeboard/jobs/libvac.html
As for the previous entry, most of the postings are for academia. There is often an overlap between the two lists, but both are still worth checking out on a regular basis.
Times Higher Education Supplement Job Database
http://thesis.newsint.co.uk/INTERVIEW/interview.html
Unfortunately does not carry a high proportion of advertisements for Library and Information Science staff. However, it still contains mostly UK academic listings, and is either searchable, or browsable via date / job type categories.

Other Web-based free Library / Information Science based journals or magazines

UKOLN mirror of LIS journals
http://hosted.ukoln.ac.uk/mirrored/lis-journals/
The full text of four such publications, namely D-Lib magazine, the Katharine Sharp Review, LIBRES: Library and Information Science Research Electronic Journal and MC Journal: The Journal of Academic Media Librarianship, can be obtained from this mirror site.
Listing of Library and Information Science journals, e-zines, magazines
http://bubl.ac.uk/journals/lis/
Listings of either the contents, abstracts or the full-text of a large number of Library and Information Science journals is available from this site. It is possible to search across the accumulated content/abstract/full-text database.

Collections of Library or Information Science oriented mailing lists

Mailbase collection of University Libraries and Library Support lists
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/category/ZC.html
Mailbase collection of Librarianship and Information Science lists
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/category/P.html
Listing of Library and Information Science journals, e-zines, magazines
http://tile.net/lists/library2.html
A large collection of Library related mailing lists from around the world.
Library-oriented Lists and Electronic Serials
http://info.lib.uh.edu/liblists/liblists.htm
Another large collection of Library related mailing lists; there are quite a few items in this list that do not appear in the tile.net list and vice versa, so it is best to check both of these if you are looking for non-UK mailing lists that will reach Librarians.
