Working closely with other professional services, and with researchers themselves, libraries will probably have a key role to play in supporting RDM. One of its very earliest decisions was to hold a conference every two years at which new developments could be reported. The theme was <em>Describe, Disseminate, Discover: Metadata for Effective Data Citation</em>. Historically speaking, data were a scarce resource, but one which was (relatively) easy to publish in hard copy, as tables or graphs in journal papers.
