It is therefore timely for the regular WebWatch column to survey eLib project Web sites.</p> <p>The aim of the survey is to use a number of Web-based tools to provide information on the entry points for eLib project Web sites and the Web sites themselves. The findings may be of interest to the eLib projects themselves and users of eLib projects. Perhaps more importantly, the findings may be of interest to new JISC-funded programmes.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue26/web-watch" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue26 tooled up brian kelly alt google jisc microsoft ukoln university of bath acorn agora cain digimap eevl elib heron ihr-info midrib seren sosig accessibility apache browser data digital preservation digitisation dissemination dtd flash html linux operating system preservation research resource discovery search technology software solaris url web services windows xhtml Wed, 10 Jan 2001 00:00:00 +0000 editor 761 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk BULISC '97 http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue11/bulisc97 <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue11/bulisc97#author1">John Eyre</a> reports on the Bournemouth University Library &amp; Information Services Conference, New Tricks 2.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue11/bulisc97" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue11 event report john eyre bournemouth university de montfort university university college london university of oxford vads elib midrib seren sosig archives copyright data database dewey decimal digitisation ejournal framework higher education licence marc multimedia passwords research search technology software url z39.50 Thu, 18 Sep 1997 23:00:00 +0000 editor 404 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk MIDRIB: Beyond Clip Art for Medicine http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue9/midrib-launch <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue9/midrib-launch#author1">Betsy Anagnostelis</a> and <a href="/issue9/midrib-launch#author2">Sue Welsh</a> describe the recent launch of the MIDRIB (Medical Images Digitised Reference Information Bank) project, and describe the medical image resource the project will create.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>A picture paints a thousand words, and in the field of medicine, images are essential. This involves a complex chain of events that takes an image from its raw form (such as a slide on a clinician's shelf) to the point where the user can retrieve it individually from a digital networked resource of potentially hundreds of thousands of items. In between it has to be captured in digital form and described so that it can be retrieved. This sequence demands a range of processes and software tools.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue6/midrib" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue6 project update julian cook wellcome trust midrib archives cataloguing cd-rom copyright database digitisation gif higher education medical subject headings metadata png search technology software standards Tue, 19 Nov 1996 00:00:00 +0000 editor 199 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk ILRT: The Institute for Learning and Research Technology http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue6/ilrt <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue6/ilrt#author1">Gillian Austen</a>, External Relations Manager at the recently founded Institute for Learning and Research Technology at the University of Bristol, gives an overview of its structure and objectives.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>The Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT) at the University of Bristol is host to more than seventeen funded projects at the forefront of learning and research technology, including four eLib projects ranging across the subject divide, from medicine to business to social science and beyond into generic issues. Begun in April 1996, its aim is to create, maintain and deliver a comprehensive collection of medical images in digital form, for use in teaching and research. The project will gather the best of existing collections from respected professional sources, and draw them together into a coherent resource. This will be available free to medical and healthcare faculties of UK Universities and teaching hospitals.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue4/midrib" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue4 project update julian cook university of bristol wellcome trust midrib cd-rom copyright database e-learning higher education multimedia repositories research Thu, 18 Jul 1996 23:00:00 +0000 editor 106 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk ELVIRA http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue3/elvira <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue3/elvira#author1">Tessa Bruce</a> from the ResIDe eLib project describes the recent high profile electronic libraries conference hosted by De Montfort University.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>Hurrah!
