The new interface was created to improve the appearance of Ariadne both on screen and when printed: the latter is particularly important now that Ariadne is published only in electronic format (since issue 19). The old 1996 design was generally very servicable from the point of view of structure and navigation, but it had a number of features which, with the benefit of twenty-twenty hindsight, introduced un-necessary complications to the editorial process: these have now been redesigned.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue20/editorial" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue20 editorial philip hunter british library ims jisc nhs ukoln university of bath university of oxford university of surrey eevl elib nesli sosig copyright digitisation ecms graphics higher education licence mailbase metadata operating system search technology software web services windows z39.50 Mon, 21 Jun 1999 23:00:00 +0000 editor 602 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Editorial introduction to Issue 19: Ariadne's Thread http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue19/editorials <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue19/editorials#author1">Philip Hunter</a> and <a href="/issue19/editorials#author2">Bernadette Daly</a> introduce the articles for Ariadne issue 19.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>This is the first issue of a purely electronic Ariadne, which has been produced without the assistance of a print editor (Lyndon Pugh) and production manager (John MacColl), both of whom contributed substantially to the commissioning side of the operation. Ariadne will however continue as a web magazine. The print edition has finished in some style, with a publication twice the size of all earlier copies. Attendees at the eLib "Information Ecologies" conference in York earlier this month already know this, since we arranged for advance copies to be available for that event. The Web version is correspondingly large, as might be expected, though it doesn't quite rival the scale of the web version of issue 5.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue18/editorials" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue18 editorial bernadette daly philip hunter liverpool john moores university school of oriental and african studies ukoln university of bath elib sosig cataloguing database digital archive digital preservation html information society knowledge management metadata preservation research search technology sgml software standards uri xml Sat, 19 Dec 1998 00:00:00 +0000 editor 547 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Newsline: News You Can Use http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue18/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Ariadne presents a brief summary of news and events.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue18/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue18 news and events philip hunter ahds open university university of bath university of southampton elib authentication bibliographic data bibliographic database cataloguing data database higher education hypertext infrastructure intranet licence preservation research resource sharing url Sat, 19 Dec 1998 00:00:00 +0000 editor 578 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Web Editorial: Introduction to Issue 17 http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue17/editorials <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The web editors, <a href="/issue17/editorials#author1">Philip Hunter</a> and <a href="/issue17/editorials#author2">Bernadette Daly</a>, introduce Ariadne issue 17.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>We would like to thank all of the readers who participated in the Ariadne Web Survey, part of an evaluation of the Ariadne project being carried out by Dr. Anne L.
