The results of this project have provided firm guidance to institutional portal developers in planning the services they wished to present. In particular, there was common demand amongst users for access to library-based services and resources within a portal environment.

issue41 feature article chris awre ian dolphin jon hunter matthew dovey william kilbride ahds edina google ibm jisc oasis oracle oxford university computing services university of edinburgh university of hull university of oxford university of york cree jafer jisc information environment portole xgrain zblsa accessibility archives bibliographic data cataloguing copac data data set database dissemination framework further education higher education interoperability java openurl perl portal research search technology software sru srw standards stylesheet uportal url vle web services wsrp xslt z39.50 Fri, 29 Oct 2004 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1081 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Adding Value to the National Information Infrastructure: The EDINA Exchange Day, Edinburgh http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue40/edina-rpt

John MacColl provides us with a report of EDINA's first general information event for the HE and FE communities held at the National E-Science Centre.

EDINA [1] held its first general information event for the Higher and Further Education communities on Tuesday 11 May 2004. EDINA Exchange took place in the National E-Science Centre at the University of Edinburgh.

issue40 event report john maccoll becta blackboard british library cclrc dcc edina google imperial college london jisc mimas mla national e-science centre oclc open university ordnance survey ukoln university of edinburgh digimap e-mapscholar geoxwalk jisc information environment jorum suncat xgrain zblsa zetoc algorithm archives authorisation service bibliographic data cataloguing content management copyright curation data data management data set data visualisation database digital curation digital library digital preservation digitisation e-science framework further education geospatial data gis infrastructure jstor learning objects metadata multimedia national library openurl portal preservation repositories research search technology shibboleth software srw video visualisation web resources webct z39.50 Thu, 29 Jul 2004 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1069 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk The JISC 5/99 Programme: What's in a Number? http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue38/5-99

Rachel Bruce and Balviar Notay give an overview of the outputs and influences of the JISC 5/99 Learning and Teaching and Infrastructure Programme.

The 5/99 Programme, as it became known, was funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) [1] in the year 2000. Quite simply the name, 5/99, refers to the number of a JISC circular letter. It was the fifth circular issued by the JISC in 1999. So the name is pretty meaningless to those outside the JISC or not involved in one of 54 projects that were funded via the circular. The majority of the projects have now completed, the programme end date was July 2003.

issue38 feature article
