In its simplest form, library groupware would help people manage information as they move through the diversity of online resources and online communities that make up today's information landscape. Complex implementations might integrate equally well with enterprise-wide systems such as courseware and portals on a university campus, and desktop file storage on private individual computers.

issue40 feature article daniel chudnov jennifer weintraub jeremy frumkin matthew wilcox raymond yee amazon d-lib magazine google harvard university ims information today massachusetts institute of technology oclc open knowledge initiative oregon state university university of california berkeley yale university archives authentication bibliographic data blog cataloguing collection development content packaging database digital library framework higher education ims content packaging metadata mets personalisation portal repositories research search technology shibboleth software standards technorati uportal url web resources Thu, 29 Jul 2004 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1050 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Learning Objects and the Information Environment http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue32/iconex

Ian Dolphin and Paul Miller discuss the place of Learning Objects in the wider environment of learning.

The Iconex project [1] at the University of Hull was funded under the JISC's 5/99 Programme to demonstrate the value of small, portable, pieces of digital content in assisting student learning. This repository is intended to stimulate cross-fertilisation between disciplines to develop generic views of types of interaction, and to encourage the reuse of Learning Objects.

issue32 feature article ian dolphin paul miller ieee ims jisc open knowledge initiative ukoln university of hull iconex jisc information environment accessibility api cd-rom data flash framework further education interoperability learning objects multimedia portal repositories software standards url usability vle xml Sun, 07 Jul 2002 23:00:00 +0000 editor 886 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk The Concept of the Portal http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue30/portal

Paul Miller gives his personal view of the portal and its varieties, both in the wild and on the drawing board.

issue30 feature article paul miller jisc microsoft open knowledge initiative ukoln dner database html interoperability java javascript managed learning environment network service open source personalisation portal resource discovery search technology software uportal url Fri, 25 Jan 2002 00:00:00 +0000 editor 850 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk
