The University of Kent, previously the University of Kent at Canterbury, (abbreviated as Cantuar. for post-nominals ) is a research intensive campus university in Kent, England established in 1965. Kent is described as a "Plate glass university" as it was founded in the 60's alongside similar universities Surrey and UEA. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise the University of Kent was placed 24th out of 118 participating institutions in terms of the best, or 4*, research (according to the RAE league tables in The Times Higher Education Supplement).The University of Kent is ranked amongst the top 25 institutions in the United Kingdom at 23rd place.
