This year’s event aimed to provide public library web managers with a brief respite from the trials and tribulations of the workplace, and the chance to share networking experiences with colleagues up and down the country. It also aimed to bring together some key speakers on this year’s hot topic –e-government (electronic government).</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue34/public-libraries" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue34 event report penny garrod bbc cilip d-lib magazine google jisc nhs ukoln university of bath university of bristol accessibility bibliographic data cataloguing content management controlled vocabularies css data dublin core e-government ebook framework further education gif graphics higher education html ict information architecture interoperability intranet metadata multimedia open source research resource discovery rss search technology smil software standards svg url usability vector graphics video vocabularies web development xml Wed, 15 Jan 2003 00:00:00 +0000 editor 928 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Public Libraries: United We Stand http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue33/public-libraries <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue33/public-libraries#author1">Penny Garrod</a> on current developments in the Public Library world.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>As I write schools have closed for summer, the volume of early morning traffic has temporarily subsided, and the tourists are out and about in vast numbers in Bath city centre. The 'out of office' auto-replies drop into the email box daily as proof that some people have managed to unplug themselves from their computers to go on holiday. It is also, alas, the 'silly season' - time for the British media to devote column inches to vital matters - such as the Prime Minister's sartorial taste, and how a certain blue shirt 'brings out the colour of his eyes'.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue33/public-libraries" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue33 regular column penny garrod amazon british library cilip google jisc ukoln university of bath dner jisc information environment sosig archives cataloguing further education higher education html ict licence research url Wed, 09 Oct 2002 23:00:00 +0000 editor 913 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Public Libraries http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue30/pub-libs <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue30/pub-libs#author1">Penny Garrod</a>'s first outing in Ariadne as Public Libraries Focus.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>My predecessor, Sarah Ormes, in her final ‘Public Libraries’ column for Ariadne, owned up to having spent five and a half years at UKOLN.
