In 1989 the Computing Service section wrote and set up the Campus Wide Information Server. The original service was then converted to gopher, but little subsequent development was made with this service as it was soon apparent that the Web would take over. York proceeded to set up a group whose remit was to organise the structure of the new service.

issue3 regular column alison kilgour edina university of york cd-rom data gopher opac search technology web services Sat, 18 May 1996 23:00:00 +0000 editor 94 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Copyright Corner http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue3/copyright

Charles Oppenheim on the copyright issues that all eLib (and many other projects) should be aware of.

Part of the basic philosophy of the eLib programme is to explore issues to do with copyright, to engender culture change amongst librarians, users and copyright owners about copyright, and to explore novel contractual or technical means to overcome the difficulties that copyright poses. On the other hand, poets and poetry lovers can find good stuff on the Web, and in recent weeks, I've been drifting around, in a more or less random fashion, looking for the interesting sites.

issue3 regular column john burnside search technology Sat, 18 May 1996 23:00:00 +0000 editor 99 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk
