I am not a library/informational professional but I have an interest in delivering digital and information skills to students. I have read and reviewed this book to further my own knowledge of the subject, as well as to see what (new?) ways there are for students to use search tools and methods as well as enhance both their digital and information literacies.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue69/whalley-rvw" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue69 review brian whalley google jisc massachusetts institute of technology oxford university press university of cambridge university of oxford university of sheffield data further education higher education knowledge base metadata modeling ontologies research search technology semantic web Mon, 30 Jul 2012 20:10:55 +0000 lisrw 2371 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Towards an Application Profile for Images http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue55/eadie <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue55/eadie#author1">Mick Eadie</a> describes the development of the Dublin Core Images Application Profile project recently funded through the JISC.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>Following on from the project to develop an application profile for scholarly works (SWAP)[<a href="#1">1</a>], the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) has recently funded through its Repositories and Preservation Programme, a series of projects to establish Application Profiles in the areas of images, time-based media, geospatial data and learning objects [<a href="#2">2</a>].</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue55/eadie" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue55 feature article mick eadie intute jisc library of congress niso oais tasi vads images application profile repositories research team aggregation application profile archives bibliographic data cataloguing cdwa data database dcmi digital library digitisation dublin core dublin core metadata initiative eprints exif file format frbr geospatial data gis identifier institutional repository jpeg 2000 learning objects metadata modeling multimedia preservation repositories research schema search technology software standards tagging tiff uri vocabularies vra wiki xcri xml z39.87 Tue, 29 Apr 2008 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1387 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk News and Events http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue49/newsline <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Ariadne presents a brief summary of news and events.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a name="headlines"></a><a name="events1"></a></p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue49/newsline" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue49 news and events richard waller british library cilip google intranet focus ltd jisc jisc collections jisc infonet microsoft mla national library of new zealand tasi university of bath university of leeds university of nottingham w3c digital academic repositories sherpa apache license archives blog content management curation data digital curation digital preservation digital repositories e-learning eportfolio eprints framework google analytics higher education infrastructure interoperability intranet knowledge base licence metadata mis mobile mobile learning modeling moodle national library ontologies open access open source owl photoshop podcast preservation privacy repositories research search engine optimisation search technology semantic web software tagging url usability video web 2.0 web services wiki wsdl Mon, 30 Oct 2006 00:00:00 +0000 editor 1281 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk QMSearch: A Quality Metrics-aware Search Framework http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue47/krowne <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue47/krowne#author1">Aaron Krowne</a> and <a href="/issue47/krowne#author2">Urvashi Gadi</a> present a framework which improves searching in the context of scholarly digital libraries by taking a 'quality metrics-aware' approach.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>In this article we present a framework, QMSearch, which improves searching in the context of scholarly digital libraries by taking a 'quality metrics-aware' approach.
