The main part of the conference took place from Tuesday 16th till Thursday 18th May. A day of tutorial and workshops was held on Monday 15th May with the Developer's Day on Friday 19th May. About 1,400 delegates attended the conference. It was pleasing to note the large numbers of delegates from the UK - about 100 in total, with about 50% from the Higher Education community (and about 9 people from Southampton University and another 9 from Bristol University).</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue24/web-focus" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue24 tooled up brian kelly alt apple darpa heriot-watt university ilrt middlesex university national library of the netherlands sheffield hallam university ukoln university of bath university of brighton university of bristol university of southampton w3c dner elib aggregation blog browser content management digital library dom dtd dublin core gif higher education html hypertext infrastructure java metadata mobile mobile phone national library rdf resource discovery rss search technology semantic web soap standardisation standards url usability web services wireless wireless application profile xhtml xlink xml xpointer xsl xslt z39.50 Thu, 22 Jun 2000 23:00:00 +0000 editor 714 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Web Focus: Report on the WWW 8 Conference http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue20/web-focus <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue20/web-focus#author1">Brian Kelly</a> discusses WWW8 in Toronto, which took place in May 1999.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>The Eighth World Wide Web Conference (WWW8) was on a smaller scale than in the past few years. The numbers of delegates seemed to be down, and there was no accompanying exhibition. This refocussing also seemed to be reflected in the conference papers, which, as a number of people commented, seemed to be of a higher quality this year.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue20/web-focus" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue20 tooled up brian kelly elsevier google ibm ilrt microsoft ukoln university of arizona university of bath university of bristol university of edinburgh w3c eevl elib sosig web accessibility initiative accessibility algorithm browser cache cataloguing content negotiation cookie copyright data digital library framework graphics higher education html hypertext infrastructure interoperability java mailbase metadata mobile multimedia open data open source personalisation rdf repositories research resource discovery search technology semantic web smil software subject gateway svg url usability vector graphics visualisation web resources web standards xlink xml Mon, 21 Jun 1999 23:00:00 +0000 editor 621 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk What Are Document Management Systems? http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue17/what-is <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue17/what-is#author1">Brian Kelly</a> explains the concept of document management systems.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue17/what-is" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue17 regular column brian kelly microsoft newcastle university oracle ucisa ukoln university of bath browser database dissemination document management html hypertext metadata research url web browser web development xlink xml xpointer Fri, 18 Sep 1998 23:00:00 +0000 editor 541 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Web Editorial: Introduction to Issue 16 http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue16/editorials/webeditorial.html <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue16/editorials/webeditorial.html#author1">Philip Hunter</a> and <a href="/issue16/editorials/webeditorial.html#author2">Bernadette Daly</a> introduce Ariadne issue 16.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>Ariadne welcomes Bernadette Daly, who has joined UKOLN as Information Officer, and will be co-editing the web version of the magazine.
