Whilst some early products were little more than books-on-CD-ROM, current material commonly uses the additional functionality that multimedia offers - e.g. animation. Programs intended primarily for higher education, however, still mostly lack the appeal of commercial "edutainment".

issue8 feature article paul garrud university of nottingham cd-rom e-learning higher education multimedia research software Wed, 19 Mar 1997 00:00:00 +0000 editor 272 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk INFOMINE http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue8/infomine

Steve Mitchell describes INFOMINE, an impressive attempt to build a Web-based virtual library for the academic community.

issue8 feature article steve mitchell library of congress stanford university university of california, santa barbara a2z jisc information environment cataloguing collection development database dublin core ftp gopher html hypertext lcsh marc research search technology subject heading Wed, 19 Mar 1997 00:00:00 +0000 editor 273 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk
