Ian Bloor reports on the recently held Elvira (Electronic Library and Visual Information Research) event.

As regular readers of 'Ariadne' will know, the fourth annual ELVIRA conference has just taken place at Milton Keynes. The following article is based on my general impressions of the event. A more detailed and complete account can be found in the collected papers, which have been published by Aslib [1] . The 'extended abstracts' originally submitted for review are online at the ELVIRA Web site [2].
