What library school? Oh yes, I spent four years there, didn't I?

After only eighteen months, I have to confess my memory isn't quite that bad, but immersed in my job with the ADAM Project [1] , library school certainly does seem an age ago. Everything I learned seems to have merged into one large mass of indefinable matter, and when asked to write about it for Ariadne a little wave of unease stirred within me.

issue9 feature article rebecca bradshaw surrey institute of art & design bibliographic data cataloguing data database higher education html search technology thesaurus video Sun, 18 May 1997 23:00:00 +0000 editor 306 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk The Librarian of Babel: The Key to the Stacks http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue9/babel

The Librarian, ably assisted by Mike Holderness, considers one of the obstacles to the unhindered dissemination of human knowledge, and makes a modest proposal.

Good morning, and welcome to the Library of Babel. Many of you will have heard of this great institution of learning only through the melancholy brochure produced for us by Jorge Luis Borges [1] in 1941. As, however, you will discover in the course of our tours, it is in the nature of this Library that the more closely one searches for the details of its foundation, the more complication one finds.

issue9 feature article mike holderness harvard university microsoft browser cataloguing copyright dissemination passwords portfolio research search technology web browser Sun, 18 May 1997 23:00:00 +0000 editor 307 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk MIDRIB: Beyond Clip Art for Medicine http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue9/midrib-launch

Betsy Anagnostelis and Sue Welsh describe the recent launch of the MIDRIB (Medical Images Digitised Reference Information Bank) project, and describe the medical image resource the project will create.

A picture paints a thousand words, and in the field of medicine, images are essential.
