That does not mean that I do not wish all the participants well in what after all is an enormous achievement just to be able to compete there at all. While I admit to not watching every team walk and wave, I cannot deny that the beginning and end of the Opening Ceremony [1] did grab my attention. Who could blame me? I suspect we sat as a nation terrified to discover what this would say about us all.

issue69 editorial richard waller bbc blackboard jisc jisc collections loughborough university ukoln university of bath university of glamorgan university of pretoria devcsi wikipedia accessibility aggregation api archives authentication blog cache collection development content management data database digital preservation drupal ebook framework internet explorer json knowledge management licence metadata ocr opac open source perl refworks repositories research schema search technology shibboleth standards usability visualisation wiki xml Tue, 31 Jul 2012 11:45:13 +0000 lisrw 2372 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk News and Events http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue55/newsline

Ariadne presents a brief summary of news and events.

UKeiG Courses over May – October 2008

Searching the Internet: Google and Beyond

Karen Blakeman
Friday 16 May 2008
University of Liverpool
http://www.ukeig.org.uk/training/2008/May/beyondgoogle.html

Searching the Internet: Google and Beyond

Karen Blakeman
Wednesday 11 June 2008
King's College London, Guy's Campus
http://www.ukeig.org.uk/training/2008/June/beyondgoogle.html

issue55 news and events richard waller arl association of research libraries cilip cni coalition for networked information dcc google ieee imperial college london information today intute jisc kansas state university kings college london microsoft mla national e-science centre national library of the netherlands national science foundation oai oasis portico sakai school of oriental and african studies sherpa tilburg university university of aberdeen university of hull university of liverpool university of manchester university of nottingham vads wellcome trust digital academic repositories iesr iwmw repomman ridir archives authentication blog cataloguing cdwa controlled vocabularies copyright creative commons curation data database ddc digital curation digital library digital preservation digital repositories dublin core e-government e-learning e-research e-science fedora commons framework further education higher education html ict information retrieval interoperability intranet lcsh licence lom metadata multimedia national library oai-ore oasis saml ontologies open access open source personalisation portfolio preservation privacy repositories research saml search technology second life semantic web sharepoint shibboleth skos soap software srw standards tagging thesaurus url video visualisation vocabularies web 2.0 web development web resources web services wordnet youtube Tue, 29 Apr 2008 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1398 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Editorial Introduction to Issue 48: Extended Family Net Works http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/editorial

Richard Waller introduces Ariadne 48.

While the number of delegates at the Institutional Web Management Workshop did not quite match that of ECDL 2004 [1] when it too was hosted at the University of Bath, it would be fair to say the Workshop gave UKOLN almost as much to do. Inevitably the bulk of the workload fell upon the Workshop's new Chair Marieke Guy and also Natasha Bishop, UKOLN Events and Marketing Manager. There is little doubt there were many opportunities for networking within a workshop in which it was evident very many delegates were known to each other.

issue48 editorial richard waller ahds digital preservation coalition intute nhs sherpa sherpa-leap ukoln university college london university of bath university of london iwmw shibboleap api archives cataloguing data digital preservation identifier infrastructure library management systems preservation research resource discovery search technology shibboleth web app web development web services Sat, 29 Jul 2006 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1245 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Editorial Introduction to Issue 43: When Technology Alone Is Not Enough http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue43/editorial

Richard Waller introduces Ariadne issue 43.

Niki Panteli provides us with an article which clearly indicates that, in our increasingly technology-dominated world, there are times when Trust in Global Virtual Teams cannot be taken for granted. This is particularly true where, as is increasingly the case, projects are being obliged, indeed, actively encouraged, to operate on a distributed working model; a model where the lack of interaction between virtual teams increases the chances of loss of trust.

issue43 editorial richard waller british library jisc jisc information environment application profile archives digital library digital preservation dissemination dspace eprints higher education internet explorer metadata metadata schema registry national library open access openurl preservation repositories schema shibboleth software Fri, 29 Apr 2005 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1135 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk
