It is based on documentation originally intended for library staff who may become involved in maintenance of metadata in the RDM, as the deliverables of the project are handed-over into mainstream use.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue27/paschoud" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue27 feature article john paschoud d-lib magazine iso london school of economics microsoft elib jisc information environment authentication bibliographic data bibliographic record cataloguing data data model data set database ejournal graphics html identifier interoperability library management systems licence metadata mis object database preservation repositories research rslp schema search technology software sql standards thesaurus url usability z39.50 Fri, 23 Mar 2001 00:00:00 +0000 editor 769 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Search Engines: Robots, Spiders and Your Website http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue27/search-engines <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue27/search-engines#author1">Phil Bradley</a> looks at the effect these have on your site's vital statistics.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue27/search-engines" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue27 regular column phil bradley browser data html operating system search technology software standards url Fri, 23 Mar 2001 00:00:00 +0000 editor 776 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Metadata (1): Encoding OpenURLs in DC Metadata http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue27/metadata <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue27/metadata#author1">Andy Powell</a> and <a href="/issue27/metadata#author2">Ann Apps</a> propose a mechanism for embedding machine parsable citations into Dublin Core (DC) metadata records.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>This article proposes a mechanism for embedding machine parsable citations into Dublin Core (DC) metadata records [1] based on the OpenURL [2]. It suggests providing <em>partial</em> OpenURLs using the DC Identifier, Source and Relation elements together with an associated 'OpenURL' encoding scheme. It summarises the relevance of this technique to support reference linking and considers mechanisms for providing richer bibliographic citations. A mapping between OpenURL attributes and Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (DCMES) [3] elements is provided.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue27/metadata" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue27 regular column andy powell ann apps cornell university d-lib magazine iso mimas niso ukoln university of bath university of manchester bibliographic data browser cookie database dcmes dcmi digital object identifier doi dublin core dublin core metadata initiative html identifier metadata namespace openurl research resource discovery schema search technology sfx software standardisation standards url vocabularies web browser xhtml Fri, 23 Mar 2001 00:00:00 +0000 editor 780 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Web Focus: HTML is Dead! http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue27/web-focus <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>HTML is Dead: <a href="/issue27/web-focus#author1">Brian Kelly</a> explains why this is, and why it is a good thing.</p> </div> </div> </div> <h2 id="HTML_is_Dead">HTML is Dead?</h2> <p>Previous Web Focus articles have reported on developments which have been the featured prominently in International World Wide Web conferences.
