While photo sharing, link logging, and Web logging sites make it easy to use and reuse content, barriers still exist that limit the reuse of library resources within new Web services. It was launched in February 2002 with an initial membership of 19, and has grown to 30 members as of June 2006. Its underlying principle is that intense collaboration and co-operation across and between sectors is essential as there is a far wider range of key players who need to be involved at various different stages in the life cycle of digital resources.</p> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/semple-jones" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue48 feature article maggie jones najla semple cornell university digital preservation coalition jisc mla oais university of london digital preservation training programme archives data digital preservation e-government html infrastructure knowledge management metadata preservation preservation metadata research standards ulcc Sat, 29 Jul 2006 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1250 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk Accoona: Super-Charged Super Target Searching http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/search-engines <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue48/search-engines#author1">Phil Bradley</a> puts a relative newcomer through its paces and finds some very useful features together with potential for improvement.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/search-engines" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue48 feature article phil bradley google cache data database rss search technology standards url Sat, 29 Jul 2006 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1251 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk The Tasks of the AHDS: Ten Years on http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/dunning <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue48/dunning#author1">Alastair Dunning</a> reviews 10 years in the history of the Arts and Humanities Data Service.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/dunning" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue48 feature article alastair dunning ahds ahrc de montfort university google imperial college london jisc kings college london loughborough university oais tasi ukoln university of sheffield aria ict guides sherpa sherpa digital preservation archives cataloguing copyright data data set database digital archive digital library digital preservation digital repositories digitisation e-science framework gis ict infrastructure interoperability jpeg metadata multimedia ontologies preservation repositories research resource management search technology sql standards tiff web services xml Sat, 29 Jul 2006 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1252 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk ShibboLEAP: Seven Libraries and a LEAP of Faith http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/moyle <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue48/moyle#author1">Martin Moyle</a> introduces the ShibboLEAP Project, a multi-institution Shibboleth adoption in London, and hopes that later adopters will benefit from its findings.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/moyle" target="_blank">read more</a></p> issue48 feature article martin moyle imperial college london jisc kings college london london school of economics royal holloway school of oriental and african studies university college london university of london gilead jorum perseus secure project sherpa shibboleap authentication data database dissemination e-learning eprints framework further education identifier infrastructure ldap moodle personalisation privacy repositories research shibboleth software standards tomcat vocabularies web resources Sat, 29 Jul 2006 23:00:00 +0000 editor 1253 at http://www.ariadne.ac.uk A Foundation for Automatic Digital Preservation http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue48/ferreira-et-al <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser-article"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/issue48/ferreira-et-al#author1">Miguel Ferreira</a>, <a href="/issue48/ferreira-et-al#author2">Ana Alice Baptista</a> and <a href="/issue48/ferreira-et-al#author3">Jose Carlos Ramalho</a> propose a Service-Oriented Architecture to help cultural heritage institutions to accomplish automatic digital preservation.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p>Efforts to archive a large amount of digital material are being developed by many cultural heritage institutions.
